Sample Puppy Schedule

The early puppy stages can be overwhelming in the beginning. Sometimes just having a game plan can make the biggest difference. Below is a sample schedule for your new puppy. Make it your own based on both your needs. The most important thing is to give your puppy some quality time with you.

7:30: Take out of kennel and immediately put outside to pee and eat. The puppy can play, but keep an eye on them.

8:15/8:30- Put puppy in play pen. You can also practice having them on your floor for 15 minutes, playing with them and teaching commands. Let them play with toys and interact with them. (Make sure they have chew toys to avoid their interest in non-toy items.)

10:15/10:30- If puppy isn’t sleeping, put her out for pee break. Then put her in her kennel for 1-2 hours. This gives you both a break and enforces the kennel as her safe place.

10:30-12:30-Kennel time or play pen area. It's okay to let them be on their own. Make sure they have some toys to keep them busy.

12:30-Lunch for puppy and playtime outside 1-2 hrs. Try to spend 10-15 minutes interacting with your furbaby. Keep an eye out on your baby if you do go inside.

2:00-4:00-Put puppy in their kennel or play pen. Let them play or sleep for 1-2 hours. Let them have "alone" time, but still able to see you.

4:00-5:30-Put your furbaby outside to play for 1-2 hours. Put some water out with your baby.

5:30-6:30-Put your furbaby in the play pen for a 1-2 hrs. Give them 10-15 minutes of your time.

6:30-8:30-Put them outside for dinner and to run around. 1-2 hours. Have some time outside with them.

8:30-10:30- Put your furbaby in playpen with their toys. Limit food or water to help with potty training.

10:30-11-Put them outside for final pee and poop break. Then put them in their kennel for the night with a bone. Put the kennel in the garage or somewhere safe you can't hear them as well. Wear ear plugs to bed. Get them a heartbeat animal if they struggle.

3:30am-Take them for quick pee break and make sure they pee. Have a tiny treat to train with. Make sure to say “Go Potty” and give it after they pee. Then put them back into their kennel immediately with a bone.

  • After a few weeks, push the baby 5 hours at night, then another few weeks 6 hrs. etc. By 12-14 weeks they should be doing 7-8 hrs.

  • Go out with baby for 10-15 minutes to give them some one on one.

  • Invite kids from neighborhood to come and play with your furbaby, but stay close to make sure they don't play too rough. That was always helpful for me.

  • Don’t leave your puppy outside when you leave till they are 10-12 weeks in case of hawks trying to take them. If your furbaby is pretty big, then no stress. Just put them back in the play pen or kennel whenever you go.
